Pragmatists will grow the CRO industry - not purists - with Matt Scaysbrook

A tale as old as time. An expert or purist in a field sees a newcomer share an insight that isn't 100% perfect and the purist aggressively, and publically, shames and attacks the newcomer's point of view. There are many reasons folks do this, but ultimately it doesn't do anyone, or the industry, any good other than boosting the purist's ego temporarily.

Making mistakes is part of learning and growth. If we don't have the grace and the tact to allow people to make mistakes, we stunt their growth, as well as that of the collective.

Recently, Matt Scaysbrook spoke at Experiment Nation's conference about how a purist’s point of view won't save the Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) industry - but rather one of pragmatism.

Here’s an sneak peak:

If you ask questions and you demonstrate... this is the way that I’m currently doing things... what do other people think... when those views are put forward? The purist tends to take aim at anything that they see as being imperfect... Nobody wants to be embarrassed, especially publicly about the way that they’re doing things in their day job... Negativity [drives] those questions underground. People will stop asking and stop challenging because they’re just worried about sticking their head above the parapet.
